Rear Admiral David J Cooke CBE 'crossed the bar' aged 59 on Dec 1st 2014 served onboard Lowestoft as a Midshipman under training during the Far East deployment of 1974/1975.
He qualified as a submariner in 1976 and served in Oberon and Warspite before commanding Onslaught, Trafalgar and Torbay. He also commanded the Type 22 frigate HMS Cumberland. He retired from the RN in 2009.

Passed away on Monday 1 December, 2014, aged 59, having suffered from cancer for the past three years. David leaves behind his wife Sarah, and three children, Alice, Charlie and George.

A Service of Thanksgiving will be held at 2pm on Tuesday 3rd February at St Mary's Church, Alverstoke, Hampshire, PO12 2ET, and afterwards at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Haslar Jetty Road, Gosport, PO12 2AS. Uniform (medals, no swords) optional for serving personnel. It will be a service to celebrate David's life, so there is no need to wear black.

Sad new's indeed I remember this young man, he certainly reached the heights. RIP
