Malcolm Hardisty

We have been informed that one of our members, Malcolm Hardisty, who served onboard Lowestoft during 1974-1975 as a Midshipman sadly 'crossed the bar' on the 24th of September 2013.
Malcolm retired from the Royal Navy as a Lieutenant in 1983.

When Skyhawk jets roared low across the water to attack, Lt. Malcolm Hardisty was on the gun direction platform above Argonaut's bridge. With him was P.O. Hugh Jones. Two bombs were reported to have actually bounced over Argonaut, one over the gun direction platform and the other over the foc'sle.

Lowestoft would not have been mentioned as he was onboard under training from BRNC 74/75 and not ship's complement.

That is very sad news indeed.

I think we had two Midshipman onboard during the FES trip, but I can't remember their names. I have a photo of one of them amongst those that I took after the tea ceremony in Kagoshima. He was a good looking and decent lad and all the Japanese girls seemed to fancy him.

Whichever one it was that passed away, RIP.
